- This month, we’re embracing all things eerie and inviting you to write a haunting tale of up to 1,000 words. How you choose to interpret the brief is entirely up to you – your story could be chilling, uncanny or something that simple makes readers shiver.The prize is a free place on all our PWA alumni workshops in 2025. Your entry should be 12pt, double spaced and no more than 1,000 words. Please include your name and the title in the file name.Enter by midnight on Sunday 24 November 2024 (the end of the day) to be in with a chance of winning.

- Sit & Write
Set aside regular time and headspace each week to get stuff written. Our Sit & Write sessions set you up with a deadline to get that writing done. We meet weekly on Zoom on Mondays, 6:30 – 8:30pm BST and every Wednesday, 12:00 – 2:00pm BST No need to book – just turn up in our online space on Zoom and write for an hour!
- Writers’ Hive
We meet in our Writers’ Hive to share a coffee (or beverage of your choice) and chat. The sessions are hosted by writer and moderator Emily Unwin. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month, 7:00 -8:00pm BST. No need to book. Our next session will be announced soon.

- Writing Historical Fiction with Dr Mike Hollows – Monday 4 November, 7-9:00 pm GMT.
Historical fiction lives and breathes by its setting, and creating an authentic historical world requires detail – but how much is too much? When do you stop researching? And how do you craft a past that feels truly alive? Join Dr Mike Hollows, author of the WW2 historical novel The German Nurse, for a workshop that explores these essential questions and more. This workshop is limited to 25 participants. Tickets are £12.
- Q&A with historical fiction writers James Aitcheson – Wednesday 6 November, 7-8:00 pm GMT.
James Aitcheson is a novelist and creative writing lecturer. He’s a specialist in medieval history and has published four historical novels set in the Middle Ages. The Harrowing (2016) was picked as a Book of the Month by The Times. Join this fantastic opportunity to gain insight into the process of creating fiction from historical fact.
